The details

Polyester built for high-speed machines

This is 100% trilobal filament polyester — 40 weight, 2 ply — made for the demands of today's high-speed embroidery, quilting, and sewing machines. Each cone holds 1,000 meters (1,094 yards).

Trilobal filament is what gives it the sheen. The fiber has a three-sided cross-section that catches light from every angle, so finished designs look bright and dimensional instead of flat.

It's also strong. High tensile strength means fewer breaks and less fraying at speed, on delicate fabrics and heavy ones alike. And the standard cone drops straight onto a home machine's spindle — no adapter or thread stand needed.

Questions, answered

Will this fit my embroidery machine? +

Yes. The 1,000-meter cone is the standard size and sits directly on a home embroidery machine's spindle — no adapter or thread stand needed.

What weight is it? +

40 weight, 2 ply — the standard for machine embroidery. Digitized designs are built around this weight, so stitch densities come out as the designer intended.

Why is it so shiny? +

It's trilobal filament polyester. The fiber has a three-sided cross-section that reflects light from multiple angles, which is what gives machine embroidery its sheen and depth.

Should I use polyester or rayon? +

Polyester is the stronger and more wash-durable of the two, which makes it the usual choice for anything that gets worn or laundered often. We carry rayon as well if you prefer its softer sheen.

How many colors are there? +

Over 200 single colors in the 1,000-meter size, each numbered so you can reorder the exact shade. For a large project, buy the cones you need in one order so the dye lots match.

Can I use it for regular sewing? +

Yes. Plenty of customers use it for quilting, topstitching, and hand sewing as well as machine embroidery.
