Crochet a Spring Granny Stripe Bandana

Crochet a Spring Granny Stripe Bandana

This boho-style crochet bandana is lightweight, airy, and perfect for spring. Worked as a growing triangle from the center top, it uses a simple variation of the classic granny stripe for an easy, relaxing project that looks great in any color.

What You’ll Need

  • Size 2 Cotton Yarn
  • Crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

The Foundation

Start by chaining 6. In the very first chain you made, work 3 double crochets, chain 2, then work another 3 double crochets into that same chain. To finish the row, chain 1 and work one final double crochet into that same starting chain. This creates a small triangle with a clearly defined center corner.

The Growth Rows

For Row 2 and every row after, chain 5 and turn your work. Work 3 double crochets into the first chain-1 space. Chain 1 to skip to the next gap.

When you reach the corner chain-2 space at the peak, always work (3 double crochets, chain 2, 3 double crochets) to maintain the triangle shape.

Continue working 3 double crochets followed by chain 1 into every gap along the sides. To finish each row, work a final cluster of 3 double crochets in the last space, then chain 1 and place one last double crochet in that same space. This keeps the top edge straight as the bandana grows.

Repeat this row until the top edge of the triangle measures about 12.5 inches wide.

The Straps

Once the bandana is the right size, do not cut the yarn. Chain 65 to create the first tie. Turn and work a single crochet into the second chain from the hook and in every chain across.

When you reach the corner of the bandana, secure the strap with a slip stitch. Fasten off, then join your yarn to the opposite corner and repeat the process for the second strap.

Final Thoughts

This spring bandana is an easy project with a big payoff. Try it in soft pastels, bold brights, or leftover yarn for a fun scrappy look. Cotton yarn gives the best drape and breathability, making it comfortable to wear all day.
